Introducing the next generation of choreographers
Olive Hardy, Vidya Patel, John-William Watson and Magnus Westwell made up the 2020 – 2022 cohort of The Young Associate programme.
We support exceptional young dance makers aged 18 – 24 and 18 – 30 for d/Deaf and disabled choreographers, providing a crucial first step into their career as choreographers. These videos are a look into their unique creative perspectives.
Olive Hardy
Taking an organic and improvisational approach to her choreography, Olive Hardy’s piece focuses on the experience of catharsis and the surfacing and release of strong emotion.
Vidya Patel
Inspired by the storytelling in Indian classical dance, this piece is a love letter to Vidya Patel’s roots in kathak dance with a twist that embraces her own choreographic style.
John-William Watson
Using a surrealist lens, this piece takes inspiration from the elements used in silent film to create an entire world around a story, with an unapologetic commitment to musicality, composition and character.
Magnus Westwell
What do you picture when you listen to music? This raw and rhythmically driven piece takes us inside the mind of Magnus Westwell and how they visualize music.
