In this interview, choreographer Leïla Ka talks on her work Maldonne, nominated for The Bloom Prize. This show sees five female dancers perform in 40 different dresses, with Leïla sharing what these dresses represent and how the piece explores the multiple identities that co-exist within femininity.

She discusses a particular section of the piece in-depth, reflecting on her approach to choreography and how she used it to show a shared experience of womanhood.

You can watch Maldone at Lilian Baylis Studio from 4-5 February 2025 as part of The Rose International Dance Prize

This episode is part of Meet the Contenders, a series where Sadler’s Wells speaks to the choreographers nominated for The Rose International Dance Prize, which celebrates original dance creations from across the globe.
