In this interview, choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira talks on his work CARCAÇA, shortlisted for The Rose International Dance Prize. In CARCAÇA, Marco uses dance as a research tool for community, the construction of collective identity, memory and cultural stagnation.

He reflects on how the performance brings clubbing and street dancers in conversation with folklore concepts, and how he used the choreography to explore these ideas of identity and the connection between past and present.

You can watch CARCAÇA at Sadler’s Wells on 1-2 February 2025 as part of The Rose International Dance Prize

This episode is part of Meet the Contenders, a series where Sadler’s Wells speaks to the choreographers nominated for The Rose International Dance Prize, which celebrates original dance creations from across the globe.
