In this interview, choreographer Stav Struz Boutrous reflects on her work Sepia, which is nominated for The Bloom Prize. She shares how the work reclaims a conventionally masculine dance, the traditional Georgian folk dance Khorumi.

Stav interpreted this dance with her own body in mind and also put these movements in conversation with female Georgian dance. She reflects on how this helped her create a new dance language for herself.

You can watch Sepia at the Lilian Baylis Studio on 29-30 January 2025 as part of The Rose International Dance Prize.

This episode is part of Meet the Contenders, a series where Sadler’s Wells speaks to the choreographers nominated for The Rose International Dance Prize, which celebrates original dance creations from across the globe.
