The Breakin’ Convention festival’s workshop programme is a hot house of technique, challenge and creativity. This is your opportunity to hone your technique or try dance for the first time, learning from some of the best hip hop, house and funk style dancers from across the globe.

Injury prevention – before and after tactics

This workshop invites all styles dancers in a session that will cover practical conditioning tactics, strategy, injury prevention tools, as well as injury management tactics during an injury. The workshop will include theory blended with a practical session so bring your comfortable clothes and notebooks. The session will be taught by physiotherapist Nefeli sMash, founder and director of Project Breakalign, an injury prevention research project for hip-hop dancers, alongside Breakalign team member Gavin Vincent (In the Making/Soul Mavericks Legacy).
A.I.M Collective Popping Intensive

The A.I.M Collective Intensive puts its focus on the dance style Popping, and is a perfect place to learn, exchange information, and receive valuable feedback from world class professionals. There are three components to how the Intensive will be ran:
• Workshop – learn how to use different tools with tasks applied
• Jam session – apply information learnt, with the opportunity to exchange with others
• Battle practise – for experienced and also non-experienced battlers
Hip Hop (with Latin influence)

Waacking

Axelle aka Ebony will be sharing her unique approach to Waacking and movement while focussing on how this dance can help you to feel empowered and connect with your feelings. Using different techniques from Waacking and connecting them to the essence of the dance, you will be guided to find your own identity and place in this culture. Teaching for more than 10 years, Axelle has a pure passion for sharing her art and is always excited to meet and exchange with new movers.

A workshop aimed at cracking open your creative process. Drawing from the styles and dancers in the room, Nick Power will demonstrate the choreographic tools and techniques he has honed over the past two decades of creating contemporary hip hop shows.
