London International Mime Festival Gandini Juggling LIFE
Play TrailerA Gandini Juggling production in collaboration with the Merce Cunningham Trust
LIFE is a brand new work from masters of contemporary circus, Gandini Juggling, based on the innovative choreography of Merce Cunningham.
Following the success of Smashed, Gandini Juggling’s tribute to Pina Bausch, Sean Gandini and company co-founder and director Kati Ylä-Hokkala have created a work firmly rooted in the Cunningham universe. The result is a captivating and fresh work from pioneers of contemporary juggling – turning a skill into a thrilling and theatrical artform.
LIFE also features an original soundscore from Pulitzer Prize winning American composer, cellist and vocalist, Caroline Shaw.
Presented by London International Mime Festival (LIMF) in partnership with Sadler’s Wells. Co-commissioned by: London International Mime Festival and Théâtre de la Ville, Paris. Supported by: Merce Cunningham Trust NYC; Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts; Dance East, Ipswich; Arts Council England.
Image description: Three jugglers pose on separate steps of a vast grey staircase, forming a diagonal line running up to the right. All three balance on one leg, the other foot pressed against the knee of the standing leg in ‘tree’ pose. They each hold a white ball in one hand at waist height, the other hand at head height, having just released a second ball, and their gaze turned upwards to follow the path of a third ball, circling overhead.
