Pina Bausch Foundation presents: BREATH (Atem) A sound installation by Ismaël Dia
UK premiere
Free sound installation
Experience a new perspective of The Rite of Spring through this auditory landscape. Dive deep in the choreography and musicality produced by the sound of the dance. Feel the invisible physicality of Bausch’s choreography in which the dance itself generates a powerful acoustic experience and the resonance of movement as sound. This exploration invites you to perceive the rhythmic intricacy and emotional depth of the piece in a whole new light, allowing the musicality of bodies in motion to resonate deeply within you.
Without Stravinsky’s score, or live dancers, the sounds that surround you are of the earth, the breath and the physicality of the dancer’s movements, as they perform the choreography invisibly around you.
Don’t miss this extraordinary and rare insight into a choreographer’s work from a very different perspective.
This sound installation is an aural experience and will be free-standing. The audience member can choose how to enjoy the experience in the space, whether that be standing, moving around, sitting or lying on the ground.
There will be some seating available and provision for wheelchair users.
Breath (Atem) was recorded on the stage of the Opernhaus in Wuppertal during a performance of Rite Of Spring in January 2023, with the company of dancers currently performing at Sadler’s Wells.
